Well, excuse me, but it is most definitely a new split, and specifically
acknowledged in "Access 2003 VBA" by Cardoza, et al, chapter 19. To wit,
whereas previous versions of Microsoft Office had a "developers" version,
Office 2003 does not. For example, there is a product called "Office XP
Developer - version 2002". There is no equivalent product for Office 2003.
HOWEVER, there is a thing called Visual Studio Tools for the Microsoft
Office System, or VSTO. This contains the *special tools* that had been in
the developer version in previous years...BUT WHICH NOW MUST BE PURCHASED
SEPARATELY FROM THE "OFFICE PROFESSIONAL" VERSION, both of which are $499.
So whereas last year I could have spent approximately $500 to get the
developers version, which contained the full office suite PLUS the *special
developers tools*, NOW I must spend $499 times 2 to get these things. Isn't
that diabolical?
You state "The developer kit was never included in the professional or
corporate
edition of ms-access." Well, daaaaah, what you fail to realize is that the
*developer* kit contained all the things in the professional kit for just a
few more bucks, in a single package, so it wasn't necessary to buy 2
separate products, either of which are expensive. Wouldn't it be easier to
just buy a single product AS IN YEARS PAST? Than to discover afterwards
that you have to pay another half grand ...for tools that should be built
into the system in the first place?
