I have been distributing an Access 2000 runtime
application for a couple of years now. In recent months I
have been encountering the following problems: -
1) When the client installs from the CD the installation
sometimes only goes as far as copying 7 cab files across
before declaring words to the effect " ... some of your
system files are out of date and require updating before
continuing with the installation ... please restart
computer to update files". After restarting, and the
computer indicating that it is indeed updating some files,
the client the re-installs the runtime application from
the CD only to be messaged similarly again ... and
again ... and again! This affects W98, 2000, ME, and XP
randomly. Any ideas? a) Is there something I'm burning
from the Access Package & Deployment wizard which is
causing the problem? If so I can probably delete it from
the P&D setup. b) What files does my CD think are out of
date because I've had problems with fairly newly purchased
PC's also!
2) When clients UPGRADE, say from W98, to Windows XP the
runtime application fails? Yet it runs OK on FULL licence
of W98 and on FULL licence XP, so why won't it on an
UPGRADE to XP. Are there crucial Windows files missing on
upgrade?
Best regards to all ...
Paul
