Jet was on the 'fixes only, no development' list.

It appears that MS may have changed their mind.

Microsoft Exchange has not completed it's move from a Jet-type
database to SQL Server. Also, there is no clarity about what is
happening to file-system indexing, search, and data retrieval. If
MS gives us Google-like ability to find and use data on our hard
drives, then a database engine which uses the database services
provided by the file system may make sense again.
